Default Questions from a new 2010 c70 owner- advice please

i am purchasing a 2010 c70 with 35K miles. original owner, good service history. have had hondas most of "adult/family" life so just wanted some thoughts from other ownerrs:

  • should i get an extended warranty? i have some left on the original and will only drive this 10-12K miles a years and plan on having it 3-5 years
  • any thoughts on servicing? hondas oil was always changed at 3K but i've heard with synthectic oil on volvos every 8K is recommended
  • read some things on the timing belt being changed at 50K but that seems early (isn't around 90K) the norm?
  • any other experiences or help/advice is welcome
i am not a car-fixer so i am always at the mercy of my mechanic but he is fair & honest so that helps.

thanks.

I don't have a lot of experience. I have a 12. I am sorry no one else has responded. I had a Saab before. They would have been all over this. my 12 does not use synthetic oil. They recommend every 7500 miles. I don't know what to tell you about the extended warranty. We have a Lexus with 80000 miles. One repair worth $500. The extended warranty would not have paid. I would put the money into a cd and save in case of a repair. that's just my opinion. I would try to get the dealer to extend it as part of the deal.

thanks - i would have thought a few would have responded - so you use regular oil at 7500 miles interval or 3000? anything else would be great -

I am planning on going with the recommended 7,500 at this point. I could still change my mind. I only have 3500 miles on the car.

That's a good question. Volvo includes a cover to put over incase it gets stuck in the down position.

no problems so far although i've only had the car a few weeks. wasn't that concerned as it's what i wanted and did not read about anything out of the ordinary.

Oil Trap (Volvo 8692211) is usually the first thing to break on this car (and will break again and again, of course). Even the part is cheap, dealer may want to charge a premium to replace it (Volvo's way to make money). When it's broken, the code shows PCV is broken.

The updated oil filter housing (which is the oil trap on the P1- not the part number you mentioned) does not fail as easily as the original. I don't think I've done one twice actually. Volvo actually extended the warranty on the first one with the defective diaphragm, so replacement is free for many of them. Imagine that!

And the cost of a part has absolutely nothing to do with the cost to install it.

And the code will not say "PCV broken".
