I bought my 2024 XC 60 recharge in May 2024. During the winter I was getting about 20% less miles on a charge but now when temperatures around 60° I'm back to 40 to 41 miles. Additionally I love using the ability to charge the battery while I'm driving down the highway long distance where I know my battery will not last more than the 40 miles. I still am getting around 31 miles per gallon on all the engine only and at the same time I am charging the battery. When it gets to about 28 miles of charge in the battery it seems to slow down or stop charging as the storage is causing resistance of additional energy going into the battery. Then when I am in a city I switch to battery only which is often a stop and go situation. I also use B mode which reduces the use of the brakes, puts energy into the battery ( a little) and is almost like one pedal driving. That's my humble opinion based upon my electrical background.
This has been my experience with my S60 T8 (they stopped colling them Recharge in 2025) as well. I've been assuming the reduced EV distance in winter is due to the energy needed to heat the cabin, but perhaps the system is just less efficient in lower temperatures. Oh, and I also went for the bright dusk exterior -- I love the color, especially with dark trim on mine.
Bight Dusk, yes a good choice. I would buy it again. In my experience the vehicle getting less miles in the winter is normal, at this time. BMS are getting and so is the energy density. I noticed when I got down to 0° that I was at about 32 miles and as soon as it went back up to 55° class I was at 39 to 41 miles. I do think there's some truth to the fact that more energy is being used when in full electric mode since the energy is being taken up by the special heater that is used when the engine is NOT running. Enjoy your vehicle. I am looking forward to my next EX 60 which will have lidar.
