XC60 Auto fan speed
In my 2023 XC 60 the fan says Auto but I don’t believe it adjusts the fan speed. I believe it’s only Auto to which vent it uses as opposed to manual. If it’s a hot day and the car is hot inside the fan doesn’t come on at a faster speed than what was manually set as in 12345 etc. Does anyone else have this experience? Or does anyone else have their fan automatically go up and down according to the temperature in the cabin.
I have also had this experience, but on occasion, I have also experienced the fan increasing / decreasing its speed automatically. I am not sure that I completely understand why, but I think I do. Each fan strength number has auto capability. Meaning if you set it a 4, it will blow more or less air at that strength. Same for each of the other settings. You can then vary the strength by changing the temperature. Sorry that is not very clear, but give it a try.
This is how it was explained by someone on Reddit. It’s a bit clearer than my explanation:Let me share a secret to you...
All of the numbers are auto.
While not traditional, once you understand that, it's a lot easier to manage. Pretend it's an automatic strength setting of very low, low, medium, high, very high.
Now set the temperature you want. You'll notice it will blow more or less air depending on the difference from the set temperature, at the "automatic strength" setting you picked. You can vary the strength at that point with the temperature by creating a higher or lower variance from the current temperature.
Or you can be like be like me and set the "strength" to 2 and the temp to 68, basically meaning I'm ok with the low speed to temp in order to have the low amount of noise.

Thank you for all of your answers. Much appreciated.
I now understand it is the maximum speed I want the fan to work at to get the cabin to the desired temperature.
Test: Set your temp to cool to with the fan at a noticeable maximum speed. Let it run. Then start setting the desired temperature to be higher and notice that the fan starts to slow down.
