Default Charging XC60 recharge off peak

I have owned my 2021 XC60 recharge for a couple years now and have always used the charge cable that was provided by Volvo. Recently our local electric utility company discounted rates for charging after 10 PM. I have purchased a wall-mounted system that will charge whenever I want. What this means is I have to plug the charging handle into the Volvo without any current going through it until 10 PM.

Is there any reason to think that this will not work correctly? As you know at this point using the Volvo system it connects, clicks into place and then starts charging because it's always plugged in.

Any thoughts would be appreciated as to any concerns

We have the same power arrangement at our house. We bought a $20 timer from Amazon and have it programmed to start charging after 10:00 p.m. I plug the car in as soon as I get home, no matter what time of day it is. No problems at all.

My 2021 XC40 Recharge allows me to configure charging time from the car. I did it for a few months and then Dominion, in SC, said that they don't give any discounted rates. I still charge between 2200-0600 and it has been fine. Plug the car in (garage) and leave for the night with a full charge in the morning. I've also driven my car down to 3% of charge...... knowing that I would make it home......

Can you tell me how to do that - my wife's been trying to figure out how to program our 2023 XC60 to auto charge once in the garage, but she can't find
a thing on how to.

For the 2021, and I would suspect later years, on the Home Screen go to the lower right “Settings” icon (gear-shaped). You’ll get a menu list, one near the middle is “Charging”. From there you can set amperage (i have mine set to 48) and you can also set “Schedule Charging” there. I plug my vehicle in and it does not start charging until then. If you have the Volvo app on a mobile device you can also set charging time from there- as long as the car is plugged in you’ll be good to go.

OK, good info, I'll pass this along to her, thanks!

Interesting, my 2022 XC60 Recharge does NOT have this much desirable feature. Our cheapest electric rates start at midnight so I'd love to start charging at that time. There is no "Charging" menu pick from the Settings menu and I can't find it anywhere else.

Yup, after lots of searching I have found the same to be true.

I've read elsewhere that the ability to control charging times in the app is only available on the full electric cars, not the Recharge's.

Default RE: ability to schedule charging times on T8 models

As I understand it, it is available on the XC40 T8. If someone here has one, please jump in and clarify. In our electronic manual, it 'DOES' say something about turning it off, but I suspect it just got leaked into there from one of the XC40 T8 models.
A couple of months ago, I did call Volvo on it through the app in the car and got the "We're working on it" response.

Maybe if everyone keeps calling them, they'll pay some attention to us on that front. You know, the old "squeaky wheel gets the grease" method. Doesn't cost anything to keep their phone ringing LOL.

Other than that, I love my car more every day

I bought a Intermatic 240V timer (I have 240 socket in garage) for the same purpose which was working great but after a while the cable started turning red when it started and would not charge.
What brand and model are you using and how long have you been using.
Thanks

Your XC60 will handle it like a champ. Plug, schedule, and let it juice up overnight—stress-free efficiency.
