Default Completely lost power while driving when switched from pure to hybrid

Sorry, long story incoming - TLDR @ bottom (and apologies as crossposted with SwedeSpeed)

So, we got this car at the end of November, and as of right now only like 1500 miles on it, so still quite new. This is my parents car and he has been complaining of times where the car won't turn or or weird electronics stuff and tbh I was just kinda initially dismissive of it as I hadn't had any problems (in the short time I drove it) and figured it was just growing pains for him getting used to a new car with a whole computer system inside. However, the car has already been in the shop twice for electronics based issues, but he was still decently happy with the car.

However, about two-ish days ago I was home and decided to take the volvo. While on the road ,cruising on pure mode, someone swerved over causing me to have to accelerate quickly and switch lanes to prevent an accident. Because i had to accelerate the car switched into hybrid with the ICE system, but when it did that, the whole car lost power completely. Luckily I was able to stay level headed and there weren't more car around me to pull over and out of the way of the other cars. It was legit scary. I called my dad and we talked a little and I tried to turn on the car a couple more times and it eventually turned on after about 10 minutes or so. I just immediately took the back streets home slowly, keeping it only in pure mode (wasn't far away at all).

We called the dealership and they told me to bring it in and I said I didn't not feel comfortable driving it down the highway the 30 min away distance the dealership was. Ended up calling a volvo tow truck, but one thing that kinda threw me off and was low key kinda rude is after I said i didn't feel comfortable driving he said "well if thats was really happened then we'll get you a tow truck" in a ****ty tone.... ugh whatever.

Get a call from the dealership and in their voicemail they said there was a OTA software update that the car attempted twice that failed partial way and that they couldn't even do it OTA so they had to hook it up manually to do it. But they think the partial update "confused" the car or reverted to an older software (they didn't seem too sure themselves).

I come down to talk to them in person and met with one of the service guys (different one than who I called, and seems much better). He basically said the car is good to go but my dad has reservations. That something like this could happen, and happen so easily. That if my mom or him was driving the car something different could've happened - that the situation turned out the way it did for me because there were so few cars around me - and how its difficult to conceptualized that its fixed. If its something physical, you can show us the part we know how it comes together, you found it and fixed it. But they have not gone through the code themselves, they (at the dealership) don't know which line of code may have caused this and they are kind of guessing, and we aren't sure if it is fixed. We know this isn't the dealership or service people's fault, they don't have control over this, but it is kinda concerning something like this can and did happen.

The service guy then said 'well you don't know that it isn't fixed' - which I said 'yea, but the only way to know if it was or was not fixed is if it happens again, and maybe next time whoever is driving isn't so lucky with the cars around them, or even worse (because its a pretty big and safe car) god forbid we crash into someone else and they get hurt or worse'. I'd like to think he understood the gravity and hesitance we have.

He said he'd have his guys drive it around and try to replicate it, but its hard to have trust in this situation, or specifically this particular car. Maybe its a one off and its only this car is being like this - but unlike an ICE engine where I feel like its easier to conceptualize and see the fix - them pushing code they don't know whats in there (they being the service guys) how can they know for sure its fixed also.

Maybe I am out of line - because I was in that situation when driving and it really rattled me - but we are not sure what to do at this point. This shouldn't happen with a car this new, less than 4 months old, 1500 miles and this is its 3rd time in the shop for electrical/software issues (assume it was even the software that did this). I feel like this made us realize how much trust we put in our cars in the past and this is nothing on volvo, but I don't know if we trust this specific car anymore, especially the nature of the problem (according to the service center being purely software in nature).

Sorry for the long post, but does anyone have any advice on what we should do?

TLDR: 2023 T8 XC90 Recharge with less than 4 months and 1500 miles is in the shop for the 3rd time because while on the road accelerating to avoid causing an accident as another driver quickly swerved over in front of me - when it switched from pure to hybrid the whole car lost power. Was able to get off the road safely, but only because not many other cars around. Dealership tows it in and says its because of an OTA update that failed partially through - they couldn't do it OTA so had to plug in and update. We are now wary of the car as its hard to conceptualize what in the software fixed it, you can see a physical part being changed and know the dealer did it, but the dealer didn't go through the code and diagnose and they cannot be 100% sure it fixed it - as the car has been cleared by them before as its been there 2 times before. - We aren't sure what to do.

I had a similar issue. I would ask if you parents get a lot of messages from the app where it is charging and stopping over and over. We had the same thing happen and I think it was my in-laws poor electrical when I charged at their house for a few days. Something weird happened where it drained the regular car battery as well.

Justy 2 cents as we brought it to the dealer, they updated it, and it never happened again.

Default Same

My wife had the same issue three times. Cruising at highway speeds with low battery in Pure mode. The XC90 (‘24 <4k miles) goes to switch to hybrid and just loses power for 10ish seconds. Super scary.

we took it in for a service/diagnostics. No error codes. Nothing. They did a software update but no clue if it has been solved.

anyone else???
