Just saw the ALL NEW and FIRST fully ELECTRIC Volvo SUV: Volvo XC40 Pure Electric P8 Recharge. And I love the design!

The main problem, and why I gave up my deposit, is the Range is way too low (204-208 miles).

 

Most people don't buy BEVs for long-distance driving -- only for local commuting. The average American drives 29 miles/day. A range of 150-200 miles should be sufficient for most people for their everyday commuting, making it a perfect commuting vehicle (much better than an ICEV) if you can charge at home every night. Very few BEV owners do public charging; most BEV owners who go on long road trips have a second car with an ICE in it (or else rent a car).

 

Mine is on a ship heading over... 200 mile range is plenty for me. but i heard real world range is closer to 250 while the Tesla Model Y states 300 mile range, but only achieve 250 in real world testing.... makes sense because the XC40 has a bigger battery pack.... (78kw vs 75kw)

 

how do the heaters work in cold weather ? much difference in range with heat on and cooler battery temp ?

 

Being electric, heaters will work well. Also, being electric, batteries will discharge faster. It's the nature of how extreme temps will effect batteries.
