XC40 Recharge 2022 Tailgate Liftgate Rear Hatch open and closes by itself
So this seems to be a key issue. To diagnose take the key far enough away or if you can’t easily then take out the battery. You will need a straight/flat screw driver and maybe a knife. Think multitool. If you take out battery and it stops you should be able to go close and lock. Now I put my battery back in and it started in the back again so I played around with the battery connection and then also opened up the front hood looking at disconnecting the battery, but never got to that point I showed the back with the front open and it stayed closed. Then I tried to close the front and leave it slightly open. I drove it a little bit and that worked keeping the back closed and I stopped and close the front completely and the car seem to go back to normal.
Anyone else having similar issues with the rear hatch opening and closing by itself and not able to lock the car.

In regards to the thread above. The key seemed to be the problem. Hopefully the rear hatch part of the key was stuck somehow eventhough it didn't look of feel stuck. I think the simple act of pulling the key apart and pulling out the battery and putting it back together fixed this problem. I hope that a bad connection or low battery won''t cause the rear hatch to just keep going up and down. And even more strange I hope opening the front hood won't be the solution to preventing the lift gate from going up and down. I have to laugh at what was going on because it was all to crazy. The back opening while at a stop light in -4f temps and then not locking when arrived at work in and outside parking lot down town. The car turned into a monster and tried to eat me. Haha! But seriously there seemed to be no stopping the liftgate from moving by force.
how many miles on your recharge that the rear lift gate struts had to be replaced. Good to know what need to be done if we hear thumping in the back and no one back there trying to get out. 😂
