When your car is running on battery only and not using any gas, your car is figuring with the amount of gas you have and you went 35 miles without using any. There’s an equation that is used to come up with that new figure of a high MPG. I recently went on a trip. When I got on the highway my mpg was 32. But because I started off only using battery power, the mpg shot up to 159 MPG. As soon as the the battery was exhausted, and the motor started. The MPG slowly dropped back down to 36 MPG after Traveling 400 miles. I hope this helps.

What you said is true, however there is a way to improve THAT figure. If the trip you went on is one you frequent regularly, then try this at the start of the trip when your battery is freshly charged. Enter your return address into the NAV system, then enter your actual destination address as an alternative address. The computers will figure your entire roundtrip with stops, speed limits, and traffic etc., to give you the best mileage by controlling how the battery and internal combustion engine can do that. For instance, if I just drive from Athens GA to Roswell roundtrip and starting with a full charge and tank but just driving from memory w/o using the programed Nav system I'll probably average around 36-40 MPG. However, if I program the entire trip with all other factors the same, I'll probably average well into the mid 40 mpg range. Of course, I usually use the cruise control and always set it 5 mph over the speed limit. Try it out.
