01 s40 flashing arrow
I have a 2001 volvo s40 and the arrow flashes at times. It only comes on when the car is idling in the park position and if i put it in drive without shutting off the engine and starting it again, it jumps right into gear really hard. Any help would be apprecited. Thanks

I had the same issue and this fixed it
Hi,
I just bought my S40 and have been goggling everything I found this and it absolutely worked. it was located with the search "how to reset the immobilizer volvo" here is what I found.
"Press lock then unlock five times on the key fob"
Hope that helps.

I would get the codes read first. The flashing arrow has been called the "flashing arrow of death" which sounds really bad. Solid arrow is the slippery weather mode but flashing equals bad. If you don't have a reader go by an Autozone or similar. They read codes for free hoping you will buy something from them.

can you tell me where you read that? I never found that expression, also my car was doing exactly the same thing and once I performed the lock unlock it went away and has been fine since. how do I find out what that actually was now that you have pointed out it could be very bad/
Thanks

It *could be* bad but that doesn't mean anything. For instance, while trying to find a knocking in my front suspension I lifted the car and placed it on jack stands. I then placed the car in drive and accelerated through the gears listening for noises. Well the ECM did not like that and the arrow started flashing. I did not own a code reader then so I tried everything to make the flashing arrow go away. I finally broke down and took the car to Advance Auto who loaned me a code reader where I erased the trouble code which stopped the flashing arrow.
Where I read the term? Don't know really. It could of been someone made it up right there in the thread I was reading. Anyway, get the trouble code read, erase it, see if it returns. My .02
