Default Engine light and winter/low gear light arrow flashing

Hi all,
I was driving on my way back from Chicago (to Cincinnati) last night and the engine light came on as did the flashing low gear winter light/arrow. I was about 200 miles from cincy, fortunately I made it home. Also didn't notice any difference in performance This tells me it is probably a sensor or else my butt would be stranded on I65. The mass air flow sensor was replaced in June of this year. I haven't had a chance to take it to Autozone to run the codes. Just wnated to know if anyone has encountered this problem before? I will take it to Autozone and post the results later.

Update on the the dreaded Electronic Throttle body. About three weeks ago I took my car in to the dealership for the 75,000 mile service and because i felt hesitation or loss momentary power when driving the car especially on the highway. They ran diagnostics and it came back as a faulty electronic throttle module, i gues due to clogged vacuum nipple. They supposedly replaced with a new style ETM. I wasn't aware that there was a new style. I had heard that volvo was replacing the ETM with same throttle module albeit new.

Hi all,

I had a chance to take the car to Autozone and the following codes were present. p1618 - manufactures control -- input and out --- P0711 - Trans sensor. Any idea what these do and how hard they are to fix?

Thanks

I'm going to guess that's a sensor in the transmission or the shifter that thinks the car is in winter mode. I'm sure Tech will have a more informed response.

Yes it might be a bad PNP switch. That is the main switch on the transmission that tells the comuter what gear it is in and other things like that.

Im not sure about that code.I know Volvo codes not the aftermarket codes. All of our scanners at work use Volvo codes.

The PNP switch is not really all that hard to replace. You will have to remove the battery tray to get to it properly.
