Ok guys.

I think I know what the issue it. Have a co-worker who has a 01 S40 with 130K on it. It has developed a rough idle that persists until 2000 rpm and then smoothes out. I suspect coil packs simply based on mileage and age and reading on here.

Anything else it could be? Would I be out of line in suggesting he go and buy one coil pack and we rotate it through and hopefully find the faulty pack? Am I missing anything?

Any comments are greatly appreciated.

 

Thats where I might start. If you take it out and drive it and stomp on it hard and hold it to the floor does it misfire as well?

 

I have not driven it. I have ridden in it. And the hesitation goes away over 2k RPM.

He is driving it again tomorrow so I will take it for a spin and see whether it does.

I was going to suggest that he goes ahead and orders aa coil pack and plugs. Do you think that is premature?

 

If they are OEM thats where I would start. If it is not that they would need to be done anyways.

 

Any recommendations on where to order parts?
