Default 02 s40 starting difficulty?

just inherited a 02 s40 (as mentioned in my other post) from a family member and while its in good condition there are a few minor things I would like to take care of.

I noticed its been struggling to turn over...it seems to crank and crank and crank and then finally ..vroom! I did some research and some said it could be the fuel pump.. but that was an s60.

I also repaired the "U" shaped gas line the goes to the throttle body as I noticed it was dry rotted, cracked, and leaking fuel..not good!..but thats fixed.

Sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator. There are many threads here describing the issue of long cranking times. If the U shaped line you are referring to is the vacuum hose connected between the throttle body and the FPR then it's not supposed to have fuel leaking into it ever....

My cranking was long too. Had a guy change out the fuel pump, ($800) and that wasn't it. So brought it to dealer who told me it was fuel regulator, and that was it! I forget what they charged me though.
