I have an oil leak on my s40 that is coming from the rear exhaust cam. I have removed the camshaft position sensor already and am staring at the metal disk (not sure proper name) with a single 10mm bolt in the center. Behind it is the cam seal and I can see oil leaking from the bottom. Is it possible for me to remove the metal disk in front of the seal at this stage? When I try to loosen the bolt I can see that the exhaust cam wants to move with it and I do not want to make the engine jump time. I just recently (6 months ago) did a timing belt job and would not like to have to do another if possible.
As long as the belt is still installed, and in good condition should be fine for the 10mm bolt, as you have to pull that bolt to put on the camshaft lock. HOWEVER you should probably just grab a gear lock before hand, cause you'll probably need to replace the seal.
