2002 S40 - Inaccurate Ambient temp (2 or 3 off)
Okay guys,
My 2002 Volvo s40 1.9T has the same 3 gauge design as others, Time, Mileage, and Ambient Outdoor Temperature. The problem I have is with the third one as it seems to be giving me temperatures that are 2 or 3 degrees higher than what is actually true, no matter what the temperature is. I don't have trip computer equipped with my car (i wonder if it's available as an add-on now, at this point in time), so it basically just displays the temperature. Now is the reason it's always 2 or 3 degrees accurate because the sensor is dirty? Or it's getting residual heat from the engine, which always smells like it's burning for some reason, not a strong smell, but strong enough that it comes through the vents...
Anyways, let me know guys,
Thanks In Advanced.

You will get this increased temp reading in most vehicles. (Due to the engine heat like tech said). I have noticed that it does read the correct temperature when traveling at highway speeds, due to the increased airflow in the engine compartment which takes that heat away from the sensor.
