VIDA = Volvo Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales
It's the software that the dealer uses. The version for sale to the general public is hacked and has some shortcomings, but is generally very good. The dealer pays for this software and add-on modules so they get the very latest updates that do things like program new ignition keys. We do not. The beauty for the home user is you can use the software with a Volvo-specific DiCE scanner.
One of the major hassles with VIDA is that it works only with 32bit versions of Windows XP Pro and 7 Pro and Ultimate. It does not work with 64bit versions (yet). I have version 2010A that covers my 2001 and 2005.
EDIT: Anyone test it with Windows 8 yet?
