2005 Volvo S40 2.4i "Jet Engine-Like" Noise while car is running and after shutoff
Hey Guys -
I have another quick question. I have a 2005 Volvo S40 2.4i and it makes a very strange noise from the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is especially noticeable when you turn the car off because it sounds like a jet-engine powering down. Kind of a high-pitched whirring noise. I am wondering what this is and how to fix it, or if it is normal.
Thanks for your help.

Mine does this too. However, there is a recall/service up-date for cars with our motors in the USA. You may want to be sure the whistling sound referred to in the following links NOT related to the "jet" sound in your car. The powering down sound is different from the oil trap sound.

I can't find the actual link to the recall notice, but I have the actual recall notice at home if you need more info.
