Default 2006 S40 Instrument Panel has stopped working

Hi All,

I have recently purchased an 06 Volvo S40 SE. I've noticed a couple of little electrical issue since I've bought it and today it's gotten even worse.

Issues I've noticed in order:

Passenger side front and rear doors not locking
Passenger side front and rear windows not opening/closing
(Above are intermittent)

Last couple of days things have gotten worse.

Instrument Panel stared popping up messages at times like:

"Brakes failed. Please stop carefully"
"SRS Airbag needs urgent service"

Then this morning on the drive into work the whole Instrument Panel turned off. So I have no speedometer, temperature gauge, mileage display, etc.

The lights on the car still work, as do the indicators, radio, aircon, and electric windows.

So the problem appears to be the instrument panel. Has anyone experienced similar, and if so, can you recommend a fix?

Thanks!

Hi
I now suffer from exactly the same problem! Did you find any solution for this ?

With nearly any car, when you start losing multiple, seemingly unconnected systems, you've got a voltage problem (most likely because of a bad alternator).

This is where it's good to have a multimeter so you can check your battery voltage (should be 12 volts with the engine off, and around 14 volts with it running).

100% but the voltage should be 12.6 Volts , if its only 12 then the battery is flat , thats with engine off

I've found that the resting battery voltage varies quite a bit, even with a good battery. 12.6 volts sounds reasonable after shutting the engine off after a prolonged drive, but by the next (especially cool) morning, it's going to be closer to 12 volts. And I'm betting with the OP's car, the voltage will be considerably lower! ;-)

No anything lower that 12.3 will cause problems , a good battery should keep 12.6 for at least a week
But there are many diffened bateries around best is to check it under load like starting a car , good one should drop to 10-11 volts , bad one to less or even 0, if its less than 9v the battery is gone
