Default 2008 S40 Turn Signal sticks on

The right turn signal goes on for no reason, such as going over a bump in the road, or for no reason. Also when turning right, the lever clicks off, but the right turn signal stays on unless you tap down on the lever to force it off. Even when the lever clicks off a left turn, it starts to signal a right turn.

Can the signal lever assembly be replaced with the column clam shell removed and is it an easy replacement? Are there any other parts that could cause this?

Yeah once you've got the cover off it is only 2 bolts that hold it on and it comes off. More than likely there is a internal short in the lever causing the problems. Its a very easy fix without taking too much skill to perform

Thanks Damien360. If it is an internal short in the lever, does this mean replacing the whole lever as opposed some smaller part of the switch - and is it just insert and reattach the screws? Looks like the lever is around $60. Is there a recommended parts place on the forum for reasonable parts and shipping? Should I pick it up from a nearby dealer?
I appreciate your help on this!

Well the lever is the actual switch on these cars so you have to replace the entire assembly if you're sure the part is failing.

Update - the new lever/switch came in yesterday and we installed it. It's working great and so the problem is solved. Attaching the lever was easy, just 2 screws. The hard part was figuring out how to get the covers off. No real instructions or youtube for that, but managed to get it off without damage. Thanks for your help!
