Default 2008 S40 water in floorboards

About 2 weeks ago I started to get alot of water in the passenger side floorboards both front and back. Car has a sunroof and I've read about drain hole hoses clogging up at elbows in the front window frame causing a leak. Can't see how this would make it into the back seat floorboards.

Also heard about an A/C drain hose in the front passenger seat that can be dislodged by passenger's foot.

Really ticked off as the carpets and padding are soaked through. Plus I can hear water sloshing somewhere.

I'm going to have to take it to the Volvo dealer in Yokohama and just know this will cost me an arm and at least 1-1/2 legs to fix.

Any thoughts. Is there a known fix for this?

Yes, remove the A pillar covers, remove plastic hose, clean elbows, reinstall. One other forum member did this just recently. Plus there are how to threads with pictures around too. I've not seen them lately though.

Well, I got the A frame cover off the passenger side and the hose had popped off. Maybe the 2008 model is a bit different in design, but that black elbow piece was almost impossible to get needle nose plier onto. Needless to say, after much trying and cursing at the Norse gods; I decided to take it to the Volvo dealer in Yokohama. My wife took it there this morning while I was at work.

7 hours later, and over $200 poorer the hoses were reattached. I say hoses because the driver's side was also clogged with dirt. Keep in mind, we were dealing with Japanese Volvo mechanics. My wife asked them about the numerous complaints by customers over the clogged hoses and they denied it repeatedly. Finally they admitted that it is happening to other Volvos and we are not the only customer coming in with the problem.

Nevertheless, this repair cost me money, and it's still not addressed the damage to the foam padding and carpets. The mechanics said that they need the car for a week and it will cost $500 more to remove the seats, all the carpet and padding, clean everything to prevent mold and rust, then dry everything and reinstall. So about $700 for what I consider a design problem.

That sucks. Sorry to hear it cost so much. I'm with you though. It's a design problem. It just has not risen to the level of a safety problem therefore Volvo won't fix it.

I should have added that you want to remove the restriction in the elbow to delay further clogs as long as possible. The elbow has an X shaped opening on one end and this blocks larger stuff quickly. If they are still working on it maybe there is still time?

Hello,

This was the exact same problem I had. I did a write up on how to fix it here:
Water Leak - Volvo Forum : Volvo Forums

Good luck!
