Default 2010 S40 boot/trunk issue - help

Hi all,

my 2010 Volvo s40 has an annoying problem where when either starting the car, idling or driving without the doors locked the boot/trunk unlocks/uncatches and is open. I noticed it after getting work done as the inner boot light and number plate lights weren't working. I took it back to the garage but they said everything was ok. I've done some digging trying to find out a reason and doing so I have changed the microswitch in the boot handle for a Volvo OEM part which has not stopped the problem, I've tried using my spare key fob incase my usual one was damaged in some way. I've replaced the fuse for the boot (#65) in the inner compartment I believe.

I'm lost for a reason why this may be happening and I can't find a forum where there is a definitive answer. Has anyone got any suggestions for a cause and solution or is any one experiencing similar? Utilmately I may have to take it back to an auto-electrician to get it sorted but from my previous repair for the boot and number plate lights it won't be cheap.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

both trunk latches and/or trunk wiring harnesses are common on this model to act up

Default Fixed it

Thanks to Smith Volvo for the post on my thread.

"both trunk latches and/or trunk wiring harnesses are common on this model to act up"

I bought a new wiring harness for the boot lid. Fairly straight forward to fit, took no more than 45min including remaining trim to get to the wiring. Once I removed the old wiring and had a look there was a section that was bound with electrical tape. This was no doubt the problem area, either way the new wiring harness went in and so far so good. If anyone is experiencing similar I would recommend replacing the wiring harness in the boot.
