2011 S40 electrical problems.
Hi, I'm relatively new here. I have a 2011 S40 T5 that i purchased a little over a year ago. Car was working perfectly. About a month ago, My interior lights would start to stay on as i was driving. Including the footwells. Have no idea what could have triggered that. Then the rear trunk handle stopped working. Can't get the back to open anymore. Yesterday i would go and open my sunroof and it would trigger the interior lights to come on until the roof was open. Any insights as to what this might be? Can it be a main fuse that is faulty? ANy feedback would help. Want to see if this is something i can handle on my own before having to dish out at $$$ a dealer.
Did you have the battery replaced recently? Battery could be going bad. Or, if it has been replaced or disconnected, there is a special procedure for reconnecting and if not followed, can cause weird issues.
When disconnecting place the key in position 0 (off)
When connecting, before you connect, place the key in position II, connect the battery. You might see a spark and hear some buzzing and clicks (normal). Then key to position 0.
Might try disconnecting for a while and reconnecting to see if it resets the brain.

Check ALL the fuses too. The fuses cover more things than what is listed on the label. On my 2005 I once had an issue with the interior lights. It turned out to be a blown fuse for something completely unrelated. Electricity can sometimes backfeed through other circuits and cause very strange behavior.
I have disconnected the battery recently. But did not do the key thing. It's also the original battery so maybe it needs to be changed out. I did change most of the fuses related to anything interior to the car. Will let you know. Thanks.
I had reconnected my battery without following the procedure once. The windows and sunroof wouldn't work and the airbag light was on. I thought this was going to be a trip to Volvo Service. This was remedied by disconnecting the battery, waiting 10 minutes and the reconnecting with the key in position II.
