I've just bought a lovely 2003 S40 1.8s. Everything seems fine, apart from the dials are all suffering from 'Spinal Tap Syndrome'. All of the dials appear to be reading higher than they should. At first, I thought it was just my mind playing tricks, having swapped from a tiny corolla... surely it just FEELS slower... but no. I kept pace with traffic through a speed camera in a 30mph zone. The camera didn't flash, but my speedo read 45mph!! The rev count is at 1.5 whilst idle (should surely be around .5 - .75), and the temperature gauge is also a touch high.

I'm going to try cleaning the alternator connections etc, but I'm hoping that the wealth of knowledge within these forums can come to my aid... all help and advice is greatly appreciated!
