Found this from a post in another forum.
It may help you?

To carry on from Gmain's post... as a rule of thumb the early phase 1 T4 had the 1855cc unit with the phase 2 having the 1948cc unit, both T4 engines producing 200bhp/147Kw.

Phase I
1998 - B4194T = 1855cc (high pressure turbo)
1999 to 2000 - B4194T2 = 1855cc (hpt)

1998 to 2000 - B4204T 1948cc (low pressure turbo)

Phase II
2001 to 2003 - B4204T5 = 1948cc (hpt)

2001 to 2003 - B4204T3 = 1948cc (lpt)

I bought a repoed 2000 V40 (build date 9/1999) from a tow company & the block is stamped with B4204T. It has the overheat buttons & yellow paint markings on it so Im sure the engine has been replaced. It does have exhaust cam VVT. Not knowing the history of the car I cant say if it originally came with a B40204T engine. If the car did not come with VVT then the computer would not know what to do with it. I did notice while doing the timing belt that the VVT gear does not move like Ive seen in the videos.

pretty sure all US shipped 2000s have the VVT (and yes its only on the exhaust cam) - some were built in 1999, best way to check is to look at the block serial number (should be on the exhaust side of the engine by #1 cylinder...
