To carry on from Gmain's post... as a rule of thumb the early phase 1 T4 had the 1855cc unit with the phase 2 having the 1948cc unit, both T4 engines producing 200bhp/147Kw.
Phase I
1998 - B4194T = 1855cc (high pressure turbo)
1999 to 2000 - B4194T2 = 1855cc (hpt)
1998 to 2000 - B4204T 1948cc (low pressure turbo)
Phase II
2001 to 2003 - B4204T5 = 1948cc (hpt)
2001 to 2003 - B4204T3 = 1948cc (lpt)
It may help you?

I bought a repoed 2000 V40 (build date 9/1999) from a tow company & the block is stamped with B4204T. It has the overheat buttons & yellow paint markings on it so Im sure the engine has been replaced. It does have exhaust cam VVT. Not knowing the history of the car I cant say if it originally came with a B40204T engine. If the car did not come with VVT then the computer would not know what to do with it. I did notice while doing the timing belt that the VVT gear does not move like Ive seen in the videos.
