Is it the battery?
When attempting to start my 2001 S40 this morning all I hear is the starter clicking, like fast pace clicking as I turn the key to on. The car does not turn over. Is there not enough juice in the battery or has something else gone?
Wait 'til nightfall if the car isn't needed and flick on the headlights. If they're dim, your battery is LOW. Put a charger on it (as slow as is reasonable if variable charge rates) and let it sit the night. It'll probably start right up. But drive it and see if you lose charge. By hooking it up to the charger again and looking at the needle/readings. If so, you probably have a toasted battery. If uncertain, have a "load test" done on it since that's the real key to battery performance. A car battery not only needs to hold a charge, it has to have cranking power (amps).
Read your manual about battery replacement since you have a radio code to worry about. And if you DIY, remember to fully charge the replacement before using it to drive. You don't want to teach it any bad habits.

Thanks for the advice but after finding out the battery was 4+ years old, I decided to get a new one on the way home, put it in and all is fine. Only thing is the battery HAD to be a Bosch due to special fit and cost $99 before taxes. Has a 3 year replacement warranty though.
