Blinking Check Engine light
Yeah i got this today.
So i drive to the shore and have some from on the highways going pretty fast. at this point my car is feeling fine nothing wrong with it. As i am coming home the next day my car starts driving fine. As i get out of the toll and accelerate pretty hard i guess my engine starts to sputter and rumble (not feel right at all). My check engine light starts to blink.
It feels like it could be the turbo, but what should i do about this problem?
Should i bring it to a shop and do think its something really serious.
I've been just driving it around and if i accelerate hard thats when the cehck engine light will blink. otherwise it justs satys on. I've read some other posts and i don't know if it would be the spark plugs.
Thanks for the help.

RE: Blinking Check Engine light
Hello Nick,
Greetings.
Make sure that your mechanics is privy to modern electronic engine control systems. If not, random replacement of sensors/components would result.
I would also consider visiting a local auto parts shop, such as AutoZone where they provide free OBD-II diagnostic service (OBD-II: On-Board Diagnostic Second generation; you can hook up a scanner/diagnostic equipment onto your car to "talk to" the on-board computer to see what's wrong). They can connect their OBD-II scanner and retrieve codes from the engine & transmission computers and can tell you what code(s) is stored, as well as a brief description of the problem.
I wish you find the problem & correct it.

mine did the same thing when i "punched" the gas on the interstate a few months ago. the check engine light was on at the time, then started blinking. i was really nervous
got it checked out, and it was the ignition coil(s) based on the diagnosis code. got it replaced, and it runs great.
volvo dealership may do a free diagnostic.
BUT -- take it to someone who has volvo experience; not necessarily the dealership. experience IS KEY.

My 2001 S40 did the same thing... Missed under hard acceleration and the Check Engine Light blinked. I replaced plugs first and that helped, but still missed and flashed the CEL, so I replaced the Ignition Coils also. Runs better now than since I first bought it!
Coils were fairly inexpensive at Amazon.com and AutoZone - $40 each at Amazon, $50 each at AutoZone.

AutoZone actually matched the Amazon price for me! Easy to change out. They just plug in to the top of 2 of the 4 spark plugs. See picture.
Good luck!
