I'm in the market for a late model S40. I'm moving from NYC back to the 'burbs and want a small upscale ride. The S40 seems to hit the spot. I'm trying (successfully so far) to ignore the call of a new one - too much depreciation off the bat.

Anything I should keep an eye out for when I'm looking? What are the typical issues that start to show up on an S40? Any special maintenance intervals that I should be aware of?

Also - are Certified Pre-Owned late model S40s worth the premium price?

Mine was a CPO and found it to be a sweet deal. The warranty is 6 year / 100K miles. I'd buy another CPO in a heart beat.

What did you end up getting? I'm looking for a 2012 S40, but not sure if the CPO is worth the extra money as you have indicated.
