Camshaft sensor CEL 2000 S40 1.9T
The other string was getting long and off of subject, so I started a new post. If the mods want it on the same string, please move it. Sorry. https://volvoforums.com/m_79382/mpag..._/tm.htm#79382
Anyway, 2000 S40 1.9 Turbo, 93,000 miles. The CEL is coming on almost everyday now, but ONLY when the car is cold and I do not let it idle fora minute at startup. The CEL says P0014 & P0015, camshaft sensor. I have flushed engine, changed oil 3 times, switched to full synthetic for all oil changes. I know the owner before me did not take care of it. I have removed the sensor itself and cleaned it and re-installed. Previously, tech advised me to replace it, but I have read some other threads it may not be the issue. Something about maybe vacuum hoses etc. Other than that the car runs great. 25/35 mpg. I just have to clear the code almost everyday.
Can I try some cheaper fixes before the big money, $150 is big to me. Or should I just bite the bullet. I would hate to spend it and then find out it is a $5 hose. But tech, buddy, if you say change it, I will. Thanks for your time everyone.

tech,
When I was looking for the cheapest price for a camshaft sensor, one of the websites had a fine print notice that the CEL code might also be coming from low oil pressure and may need an o-ring kit for the pan. have you ever heard of this being the culprit? I thought maybe they are trying to sell additional parts, but for the last week, when I start it, I give it just a LITTLE throttle one time and the light hasn't come on again. Since it only comes on within the first 30 seconds or so, could this be it? I await your thoughts.

I findit very interesting that the cam would be out of position due to oil pressure. I shouldn't be surprised I guess after I was informed my last Volvo, the 2002 V70, has more than 7 systems feeding info to the cruise control. Amazing. I truly do not know how you guys diagnose cars anymore. I'll take my 65 Mustang with about 16 wires in the whole engine bay, and this includes the 8 spark plugs and 1 coil wire. Geez. Anyway, I have a leak at the infamous turbo return line, parts are on order, and another leak somewhere else I believe, because there is oil on the undercarriage and I believe it is too much to be just the return line. Also, the knocking you had me fix is back again. Last time it was the swaybar endlink, now I don't know. The other end seems fine. It happens when I have my foot on the accelerator, not alot though, and turn the steering back and forth. I can repeat this all day long. Anyway, thanks for all you do and I'll keep you updated. I still love it, but my little S40 is trying my patience.
