Default Changed cam sensors and crank sensor, now no start!!

Hey folks, I’m pretty frustrated. I have a 2008 S40 2.4 non turbo and had a cam position sensor code come on. Cleared it and two days later the car went crazy. The service trans, traction control, basically every light on the dash came on. The codes read cam and crank sensors. Cleared codes again and car ran ok with a mild miss. I ordered genuine Volvo sensors and replaced both cam sensors and the crank sensor. Went to start the car and no start. Checked all connections and everything is plugged in. If the car sits over night it will fire on first attempt but quickly dies after that continuous crank no fire.....help please!!!!

Normally when you get a lot of seemingly unrelated "problems" popping up (like your dash lighting up like a Christmas tree...) it's because of an electrical issue (normally, the battery voltage falling too low to keep all the computers / modules happy).

I'd check the codes again to see if that tells you anything. But I'd be suspicious of the new crank sensor - I'm not sure that a cam sensor will cause a no-start, but I'd say it's possible that you installed a bad part (happens occasionally). Or, of course, that you did forget to plug something in / plugged it in wrong. Really (!!!) go over your work with a fine-tooth comb, and check for anything you might have missed.

The CEM is another common cause of some of the symptoms you mentioned.

If you haven't already, it would be worth unplugging all the connectors to the CEM and then plugging them back in again, cleaning them if there's any sign of corrosion.

There's plenty of how to guides online including some videos on YouTube.

Why did you replace the cam sensor?

Do you have compression, spark, injector pulse, fuel pressure, and is the timing belt installed correctly?

Hi

We have encountered a similar problem with the dash lighting up like a Christmas tree after the roof lining was fixed. It won't start, won't move. The dealer can't work out what the issue is.

Any ideas?

Deb
