Charged $118.16 for cabin air filter change!
Long story short...
Wanted 90K service done at dealer, knew it was going to be pricey. Dealer told me air cabin filter was part of the 90K service.
When I got the bill I was charged $519 for the 90K and then a separate charge for the air cabin filter. ($55 for labor and $63.16 for the part) It takes 2 minutes to change and I can buy the part online for $20. I'm pissed because I was told it was "included" with the service, otherwise I would have just done it myself.
(This means they charged me $1650 an hour for the filter change)
I called the service manager and he said, "Well you signed the paperwork, so there is nothing I can do for you." I already sent a letter to Volvo corporate.
Any ideas on how deal with this obvious overcharge?

Bottom line, if they told you it was included it should be included. Hopefully you'll get a positive response from VCNA. Not sure if they'll reimburse you though.
About the filter...What year is your car?
If it's an '04.5+ S40. It's easily a 30 minute+ job. Not sure about the first gen S40's.
Also next time find an indie mechanic to do the work. Dealers charge WAY too much for parts and labor.

My S40 is a 2002. Now that Mad matt mentions it, the service guy told me it wasn't easy to change the air filter, something about having to take some parts off. I hope he thought I maybe had a different year so something, I hope he wasn't just bold face lying to me. That would **** me off.

Wow, And that should seriously be the last time you ever do business there.
Have you tried taking your argument past the service guy? See about talking to the GM or the owner. If you don't get results, follow up on that letter you wrote to VCNA.
For the other members in your area, name the dealer, so we know to avoid that place if it can be helped.

Frankly, that's how the dealer makes money. Want to save money? Do it yourself. People go to the dealer because Barney's Repair Shop screws up the car all too often.
As a used car dealer specializing in Volvos, I have seen many shops who don't understand the vehicles screw them up big time. Of course, I know the vehicles but many don't.

I haven't spoken to the GM yet, I'll have to see if I can get a hold of that person.
Anyone know how long it takes for the VCNA to get back to you?

Lol, that's where I bought my S60R from, and I haven't been back since. They've screwed over a couple people on Swedespeed including the guy that was trying to buy the S40 I traded in to them. For Dealer work that needs to be done, I'd highly recommend either Seattle Volvo or Topping Volvo here in Olympia. There are also a few really good indie mechanics in the Northwest that in the future can save you a lot of money.
Usually it can take a while to hear back from VCNA.
Really see about talking to there GM. IMHO, he should try to make you happy as a customer, Considering he may just lose all your future business over a measly $118.16...
