Default Check Engine Light at start up

Another stupid question....
When I start the car, the check engine comes on and stays on for approx a minute or 2, then goes off. Is this normal. 2001 S40.

Are you sure it isn't the service light? If not reset, it comes on for two minutes when you start the vehicle.

Yes I believe it is the Service light. Sorry!
Is it supposed to stay on for the first minute or 2?

Also, Someone told me something about allowing the car to idle after starting instead of jumping in & going. Something to do with the turbo?

Yeah that is just the service reminder. It wasn't reset at your last oil change.

Turn the key to position one and then press and hold the trip reset button while turning to position two. Keep holding the trip button until the service light flashes and then release. The light should be reset.

Turbo or not, it is better to let the car idle before driving off. But once started, there's oil pressure in the system and you can drive. It's more about warming up the engine so it runs more efficiently.

Start the car and give it maybe 30 seconds before you go. The big things with taking care of the turbo is not to put your foot in it until the car has warmed up. Then don't put your foot in it right before you stop the car, let the turbo cool down a little before you turn the car off.
