I have a 01 S40the check engine is on. The code says misfire on 3 cylinder. and i can't clear the code so i can get the car inspected. what does the code mean?

 

Misfire means that your car is not running on all of the cylinders. It's not firing on #3. You'll need to figure out why. Maybe you have a bad coil pack or bad spark plug.

Swap the coil packs from 1 to 3 and see if the misfire moves to #1.

How long since you had a full tune up? 2 coils, 2 wires, 4 plugs.
