cleaning dirty IAC. still looking for a new gasket.

Finished the IAC cleaning today, but I'm still looking for a new gasket. Following I document the process:

step1, remove the 2 bolts, it's eary to use wretch to remove the upper bolt, but the bottom bolt can't be reached, at last, it was removed by hands.

step2, lift the plastic tab and push down to disconnect it. then unplug the the wire.

step3, spray the cleaner, and remove the dirty.

open issue, the gasket is wired out, crispy and broken. where to get a new one?
and, how to screw tightly the bottom bolt? Any advice will be appreciated.

Your experienced symptoms of a bad IAC were...?

Are you running the car without the gasket now?
I would suggest calling a local dealership and asking them. Couldn't cost more than a couple bucks.

Question about the throttle body and air intake cleaner you used. Doesn't it say not for fuel injected cars or something in the instructions? I bought CRC stuff to do the job and it says not for turbo cars?! WTF? It should be fine anyway. Just wondering.

First, mine is 2002 S40 1.9T, yours is 2001 S40 1.9T, we're in the same trench to fight against long starting, right? I decided to fight again although I wanted to give up a month ago.

I'm sorry I couldn't find any local Volvo dealers to buy the gasket, and I have stopped by Autozone and Autopart shops, the guys told me to go to 'volvo only'. Now, the broken gasket is installed. I don't think it's good enough, someday I have to visit dealers in Houston to get new one.

Before beginning, I have read alot of discussion, I believe the cleaning will help. In fact, it was very dirty. It was a good job except for the gasket. I think I'm doing the right thing, but I still suggest you make sure the new gasket is available before action.

At the last, the reason I chose STP is that I read 1warhelion's document, he used STP. The CRC is more expensive than STP, may be better.

Actually mine is a 2000
Does the STP say something like "not for use with fuel injected vehicles" in the instructions?

Did the cleaning help at all? With anything?

I'll post the pics of stp 2 hours later.

Ford 302 motors use the same one I believe. Ask Auto Zone to show you one for a 87 Mustang LX 5.0 and match it up.

My IAC has a big FORD stamp on the top of it!
LOL!!

I don't find any like 'not for use with fuel injected vehicles' in the instructions and attached 2 pics here. If the compressed pic isn't clear pls leave an email to which I'll send the previous ones.
Thanks for the information from Tech and you. It's like the light in the darkness for me.

Hmmmmm... coulda swore it said that.

DId it help anything?

ricky 02-25-2009 11:03 PM

After cleaning, till now I don't have much driving. I feel a little improvment for the accelerating.
For the starting, sometimes it helps and sometimes, on the other hand, doesn't help. Till now I just have several starting, so I'll keep monitoring.

Lyonsroar 02-26-2009 03:35 PM

K. my FPR is here but I haven't had time to install it.
Too damn cold!

ricky 02-26-2009 05:44 PM

Cold? where are you. Short pants is ok here now.

Lyonsroar 02-26-2009 06:14 PM

Nebraska!
It is 24 degrees out now!!
Warm!
We had a day where in the morning it was -15 and the high was 1! No joke!

ricky 02-26-2009 09:30 PM

It's too cold, hope the spring coming soon for NE.

Lyonsroar 02-27-2009 07:49 AM

IT was getting better. 62 on wednesday but the **** hit the fan! 1-3 inches of snow expected tonight.

ricky 02-28-2009 07:24 PM

So heavy snow you have, do you active the 'WET' mode?
Today I have a driving in town and feel the accelerating is better than before. When the traffice light turns from red to green, it's easier than before to move the car from stand to 40MPH speed for the accelerator is more sensitive. It comes from the I.A.C clearning I think. On the other hand, there's no clear change for the long starting.

I have a good news for I have found the tool to screw tightly the 2 bolts, especially the bottom one, of the throttle body. Please have a look of the attached photos of the screw-extension for reference.

For the broken gasket, the AutoZone guy suggests me to go to FORD shop.

tech 02-28-2009 07:30 PM

Did you ever get the new gasket?
Was it exactly the same like I thought it was?

tech 02-28-2009 07:32 PM

We were both posting at the same time. They should carry the gasket. It must have been a newbie behind the counter.

ricky 02-28-2009 07:59 PM

Ha, at the same time we posted.
I'm thinking if the new gasket isn't available, maybe I can buy a piece of gasket material and try to have a trim, simulating the shape of old one, by myself to get a new one.
Do you think it's feasible, sir?
