I have a 2004 s40. I have replaced both sway bar mounts, links, struts, strut mounts, and strut bearings. The clunk is present most of the time during acc. braking and while hitting bumps. It will not clunk while holding brake and throtte is applied in fwd and reverse. I am at a loss maybe axle shafts or rack I just hate to keep throwing parts at it. Please help of anyone has seen this or heard of it thanks in advance for the timely response.

 

Sounds like you checked everything that I would have. There are quite a few clunking sound threads in here. maybe I missed one. Take a look through.
