Crank but no start HELP
HELP BEFORE I CRUSH THIS THING! HEY PEOPLE SO IM NOT A MECHANIC BUT I KNOW A FEW THINGS ANYWAYS I CAME ACROSS A MINT CONDITION S40 2001 AND OWNER WAS SELLING IT FOR SO CHEAP DUE TO A BLOWN TURBO.....I GET IT HOME CHANGED TURBO OUT AND FIND OUT THE CAR HAS GREASE ALL OVER THE BELT AND GEARS .....NOW WITHOUT CHANGING THE BELT OR PUMP OR PULLEYS (YET) OR BEFORE THROWING MORE MONEY AT IT I NEED TO HEAR IT RUN so I attempted to time the motor with help of forums and after its all put together I have spark,I have fresh feul,I haven't checked compression but the car just cranks doesn't even try to pop nothing.......I noticed when trying to connect code reader it can't seem to communicate and can't get readings and when cranking it over the rpm needle doesn't even try to jump up at all(unsure if it should but every other vehicle I have needle moves before motor starts) it's been a month and I'm giving up but don't want to spend money on it yetany thoughts?.....thanks in advance
Check the timing marks on the main pulley and on the cam gears. If they line up then do a compression test. Oil on the timing belt can either come from a pushed out cam seal (say from a clogged PCV system) or a leaking VVT gear/ actuator which will mess up the timing belt (literally and figuratively). If the timing has jumped more than a couple notches and you have zero compression, its likely that you have bent exhaust valves which is a $2500 repair on a $2000 car :-(
