cut off while driving and will not start again....Help Please!!
I have a 2002 Volvo S40 that cut off on me while I was driving, I was experiencing some slight stalling while driving but it never died on me until now, and it will not start when I try and crank it even with jumper cables. The battery seems to be fully charge but the lights do go Dem a little when I try and start the car. I located the fuel pump and put my ear to it and it makes a little whining noise for a few second when trying to start the car. I also used a code reader and got the following codes: p0128, p0171, p0340, p0108, and p0101.....Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the problem, its would be greatly appreciated...thanks...........
I'd pull the timing belt cover and see if the timing belt is still in one piece. Then I'd check the compression. Next I'd check fuel pressure. Last I'd check if the car has spark.
Start with the basics. Timing, air, fuel, spark.

@Hudini Thank for the help, I did not think to check the timing belt and it was broken. As soon as I took the timing belt cover off I saw a lot of oil spilled there, Do you have an idea of what could cause this
oil probably came from the VVT gear or one of the cam seals. If your belt is gone you will likely need to either rebuild the head (bent exhaust valves) or replace - where you may want to go used and see if it includes the VVT gear.
As mt6127 wrote the VVT gear is notorious for leaking. Like you, I learned this the hard way after my timing belt slipped and bent all 8 exhaust valves. The culprit is a small o-ring in the VVT gear that allows hot oil to soak the timing belt. It's only a matter of time before the belt fails.
If you like to DIY and have the tools, time, and money you can repair it yourself. I paid around $500 in parts maybe 5 years ago when I repaired my 2001. I also had to buy some tools but I consider that an investment.
