Difficulty removing the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (ect sensor)
Hello guys and gals,
I have a 2001 Volvo S40 and was able to replace the 02 sensor bank 1/sensor 1, fine and the t-stat fine. Supposedly the ect is also easy to replace.
My ect sensor seems stuck. I was able to wiggle the plastic pieces apart, but the actual sensor part is stuck. I tried using a 19 mm open end wrench and it seems to be just damaging the nut instead of moving it. I tried spraying some PB blaster and left it over night. Still no good.
Do I have to take it in and get some professional pneumatic ratchet to take this thing off? Do I have to cut the wire and plastic part off and then used to closed end part of the 19 mm wrench?

Lessons Learned
I had to continually soak and spray the nut end of the ect sensor with pb blaster for two days twice a day. I also did not drive it both days.
For the electrical end of the ect sensor, I used a thin, flat, small, five inch flat head screw driver to push the two pieces apart. There's a gap on top of the ect sensor where the "male" part of the connector fits in with the ect sensor.

I also had to replace the sensor itself in my passat '01 V6. It was a pain in the *** and I had the usual cuts and scrapes to cope. I also replaced the O-ring that goes with the sensor. My replacement was green, the original was black. As it was time for her, I simply drained and flushed the cooling system at the same time ... So, no problems of fluid loss.
