Default DIY Heico style tail light covers. Opinions?

so rather then shell out for the real deal i made these with some Rvinyl i think they look ok. but kinda stand out since their CF style.

Then i spotted this s40 that has the bottome portion blacked out and liked it alot. might take these off and go for this look instead.

I like the thought and look you have with your own tail light trim. IMHO it would of looked better if it was glossy vinyl to better match your paint and not stand out.

There's a few S40's around with similar style DIY trim. Looks way better then the Evolve/Elevate trim. There design is awesome but the quality and thickness of the material used looks cheap and half assed.

The other S40 you posted a pic of was Euro3b's old S40 (he posted on SS). Great looking car! His tail lights were only tinted with the center portion left clear. Heres a better pic of his tail lights...

Personally, my favorite tail light trim just happened to be on my old S40. Lol.
I took the style of Evolve's trim and used it as a guide to paint my tail lights to match my cars paint...

While you doing light stuff, open up the head lights and black out the amber turn signal lens...

Nice job on the trim it looks great like that but I can't imagine painting my light mouse of would have to have then done.

I ordered some black out tint from r vinyl I'm going to use that just to see how I like the bottom red Portion of my lights tinted and if they look good I'll spray them with some vht to get them nice and glossy.

The amber portion was def next on the head lights I did the same thing with them tho with the cf vinyl and made some eyebrows they look alot better but I'm getting tired of them plus their stating to oxidize from the sun light.

I had a body shop paint the tail lights just cause I couldn't get vinyl in Mistral Green. Lol. I also had some vinyl go bad on me so paint was the best option for me. I didn't have any issues with the tail lights when I traded the car either.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the tails look with the black vinyl.

With the headlights, take them apart and use a flat black spray paint to match the OEM black of the headlight housing.

Are you talking about separating the housing from the lense like baking them?

Yes. Though I wouldn't bake them in the oven like some guys do.
I used a heat gun the first time and a hair dryer on hi heat the second.
Just have to take your time to separate them and make sure you heat up the glue well enough when you put them back together to get a proper seal.

Hmm I was just planning on tinting the outer lense but I can see how your way wild look alot sharper if I do that though I would like to toy with them a little more while I have them apart and see if I can put in some projectors.

I can't find the pics but my buddy on SS did the black vinyl on the outside of the headlight. It looked really good from about 10 feet away but any closer you can tell it's a sticker covering up the lens.

Your car already has projectors. You talking about putting in HID's? Sharphid.com has kits for the S40 that work really well.

Oh, gotcha. Gonna do something custom then? It's been a while since i had my S40 but there were none on the market when I had my car. I did a custom LED halo that looked pretty cool, but I'd like to see what you go with...

Ya I'm going to try that as well of the projectors don't fit. How did you hook up the halos though did you just splice them with maybe the day runners ?

Originally I spliced them in with the day time running lights, but changed that shortly after and hooked them up through my fog light switch so I didn't have to have them on if I didn't want. Oh yeah, I also did a fog light delete with the Evolve front end so there were no fogs connected at the time.

How did you connect them to the fogs. Did you have to run them through the firewall ?

Nope, I went the easy route and soldered the wires from the halos to the connector that was left in place when I removed the fog lights.

Cool but I'm using my fogs so idk If I'd want to mess with them. I would like the idea of using the day runners Hester since id want them on all the time.
