Does this look like a past fire in engine bay to you?

Hi,
I am looking at a 04 S40 for my son's first car, purely for practical and safety reasons. I found this vehicle at a local dealer and it looks by the pictures to be in great condition. 71k miles.
However, when I browsed through the pictures, I noticed something that looks like melted plastic under the engine bay.
What do you owners think? Does this look like a past fire or a potential unreliability in the vehicle?
I would appreciate any feedback that you may have for me, as this is my first consideration of a Vovlo vehicle, I'm not familiar with them at all at this point.
EDIT - I searched for pics of the engine bay on Google, looks like that texture is normal? Also it looks to be a simple battery cover piece.

Go a step further on the timing belt issue and have them remove the upper timing belt cover and check for a leaking CVVT camshaft gear, its the gear towards the rear of the car. I would need to see this myself and not trust their salesmen/mechanics word for it. I know from personal experience that even a slight leak from that gear costs $1500-$2000 to have someone fix it. You will see a fine spray of oil on the inside of the TB cover, and the TB itself will be wet with oil. That entire area inside of the TB cover and the side of the engine should be bone dry.
I spent $400 doing the job myself just in parts and specialized tools. And from what I have read on these 00'-04.5' S40's its not a matter of 'if' they will start leaking, its 'when'. My 2003 S40 had 116k on it when I bought it and found out the hard way that that is something worth checking on.
