Default ECM-61 Camshaft Reset Valve

Hi there,
I've been getting this error code for almost 6 months now. VIDA suggests either a faulty VVT or a faulty solenoid. I believe that this code lines up with either P0014 or P0015 as far as generic OBD codes are concerned.

I replaced the VVT two years ago with a new unit. Was error free for 18 months.

The code originally popped up IMMEDIATELY after I replaced my plugs. In view of this I started by replacing the solenoid and the coil wiring harness (long shot but the harness was on its last leg anyway). Wiring to/from solenoid was seriously brittle.

About a year ago I started using high mileage oil. Not sure if this is relevant or not.

Short of going back in and replacing the VVT I'm out of ideas. I've heard of suggestions to put ATF or Seafoam in the oil but I'm hesitant to try these and haven't heard of anyone DEFINITELY curing their VVT error code this way.

I have no oil leaks and the engine is running like a dream. I've just found out that I will have to clear the CEL to pass the emissions test which will take place in 12 months (so I have some time).

Any ideas are welcome!

Did it get cold where you are already? I'm expecting my code to come back in a month with the weather cooling.

Yep officially cold now. No hope of this stupid code going away anytime soon.

I had to replace the VVT again on mine. Replaced the original one after the dreaded oil leak caused the timing belt to slip. Then a few years later the same error codes came up so I replaced the solenoid with no luck. I finally replaced the VVT once again and that cured it. I used only full synthetic oil in that car but didn't matter.

Thank you, Hudini, good to know I'm not the only one who has experienced this exact scenario. New VVT here I come!
