Will a ECU swap on a 2002 s40 from a donor car need programmed to work or is it plug and play?

 

should work plug and play. normally people ask about the CEM - which on later models is paired to the ECU but on the Gen 1s that is not the case.

 

Thank for your reply! Does then Gen 1s go through early 2004? I have a ECU from a 2002 s40 and want to put it in a early 2004 s40. Difference is the 2004 is 170 horse power and the 02 is 161 hp. Both are 1.9t Badged as 2.0.

 

yes the gen 1s include the 2004 model year. The gen 2s are 2004.5s and the newer body style. A quick check of the part number should show they are the same.
