I am interested in the ELM327 to use to analyze my 2002 Volvo s40. Does it work well with this Volvo. I assume that it works, but maybe not very well.

I believe the 2002 S40 uses the ISO OBD2 protocol. What I'd expect is you can pull most of the engine codes, reset them but some of the other codes (chassis, transmission) may map to generics. So I guess the question is what are you looking to get out of the device - read/reset CEL codes or do you want to do a full performance scan?
