Engine service urgent light and message
Bought an used s40 with almost 300 k miles on it about two months ago. Runs well but had an issue with coolant leaks, Took it to a local volvo shop and had hoses replaced, water pump replaced and timing belt done just for piece of mind. We were up in the mountains when the red triangle light lit up with message engine service urgent on, No loss of power, no fluid loss, oil is good, Stopped at a store turned the engine off and light/message did not come on till next day, again it went off after shutting down the car, Took it to auto zone and no new codes were in memory. My husband took it to work today and says it seems to be temperature related, Opinions and ideas please. The shop I took ot to is closed for the holidays of course.

What year car? 2000-2004 with the 1.9L turbo engine? Or the 2004.5 and up with the 2.4L or 2.5L engine? All my guesses are fuel pump related but for 2 different reasons. On the 1.9L engine when the fuel pump starts acting up you get the warning message you describe. On my 2001 it was an easy fix just not cheap. On my 2005 it was the fuel pressure sensor. This sensor varies the voltage to the pump in order to adjust fuel pressure. Again, guesses only until the pump or sensor actually fails.
