i want to find for my Volvo S40 a really reliable but not expensive diagnostic tool, it is okay to support basic diagnostic tool.

You are speaking of the Chinese clone DiCE / VIDA setups. For under $100, you will have a device that "speaks Volvo" perfectly. It will pay for itself in ONE "missed" visit to a dealer.

 

You mention the Chinese clone DiCE tool. Now I work in China. I'm a pilot who flies all over China including Shenzhen where the DiCE is made. I really really want to find my way to the factory and take some pictures. Just for the fun of it. Wonder if I could buy one right then and there without having to go through Alibaba?

Since Ali Baba is an aggregation of sellers like e-bay, you could easily identify the sellers. Finding the factory, on the other hand, might be more difficult.

I use the following unit with my 03 S40 with the MVS vmware image and I haven't had any issues with it. Enabled my fogs. Reset a buddies v70 SRS light. It works. The benefit of the vmware image is that you don't deal with the vida install and that is usually where people have issues.

I second that! I've got VIDA running on my Win8.1 netbook with no issues other than slightly slower operation.

I have bought the one in the link bellow in september 2013 and still works.And works great...Cheaper products could mean lower quality,which means it gets broke very soon or it cant read too many parameters simultaneously,so you'd better stick with the ones with price above 100$.When you finish playing with the tool,just remember to unplug the tool from the cars port only after RED LED STOPS BLINKING,in order to avoid firmware coruption(you can though rewrite the firmware by yourself and repair it)...At least for this model...

It's the same price as the China unit but does not have Bluetooth. Also beware the warning that their copy of VIDA only works on Windows 7. Get the VIDA VMWare copy and do not worry about compatibility again.
