Default Flashing up arrow on dashboard

My 2002 Volvo s40 has flashing up arrow next to the check engine light on the dash. I believe that I have had this situation before. before. I just do not remember
how to fix it. I do remember that it was an easy fix.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please help.

Respectfully,

Check to make sure that your car is not in "Winter" mode via the button on the console next to the shifter. The up arrow is the upshift indicator

I'd bet dollars to donuts that someone spilled a soda on the dash (which will effectively glue that W button down). I'd suggest pulling the console apart far enough to clean / rehab the W button.

Some rubbing alcohol should free it up.

Thanks for the advice. I try it this week-end.
