Front End Vibration
My daughter has a 2001 Volvo s40 loves the car , I drove it the other day and noticed a vibration in the drivers side front end when acceleration on up hills . It easies up if you get the accelerator, I did check the lower transmission mount and it looks /feels good . any help ??
I just went through this on my 2000 Volvo S40.
It doesn't do it when idling or when the engine is NOT under load right?
If so... Go under the front driver side to the Inner CV Joint and give it some movement (i didn't want to use the word shake but that's technically what you're doing).
If it has any play in it, then you might as well replace the Entire Axel on that side.
The Axel is about $160.00 for a Dura-last with a lifetime warranty. And to replace it yourself will take about an hour.
It's not hard to take out. It's just like any other standard car. You need a Half Inch Socket to take off the Axel Nut. I would suggest a Craftsman wrench. The reason being for the craftsman wrench is because when we were trying to pull mine off, of course it had been put on by a Torque Wrench. So we bent 2 and completely broke 1 of the 1/2" sockets. (craftsman's have lifetime warranties no matter how many you break they will hand you a new one)
Just take precaution. It's really not that hard to get that thing off and back on.
Now if you aren't to DIY, then taking it to a volvo mechanic is your best bet. It's probably going to cost you a pretty penny to get "certified volvo" tech on it.

the car has a auto trans I forgot to mention that, there is no clunking noises just a vibration that I can feel when pulling a hill . If you let off the accelerator it goes away, no vibration in the steering wheel. Help ?? Thank you guys for the input
