Default Fuel Efficiency Advice

Hi,

I purchased a 2004.05 Volvo S40 T5 about a month ago. The MGP are rated at 22 city and 28 highway. Thus far, over five to seven tanks, I'm getting 20 mpg max. About 2/3 of the driving is city with some hills and the 1/3 of highway often is in traffic. Nonetheless, it seems like my average is far too low. I recently got an oil change and the tire rotated and I adjusted the PSI to appropriate levels. Any ideas on how to up the MPGs? Sorry if this seems trivial, but it is slightly frustrating. Thanks for your advice in advance!

Default RE: Fuel Efficiency Advice

Welcome.

You do drive city most with up hills, and that will really hurt your MPGs.
clean the car once a week or once every two weeks Dirt=more drag.
Keep the tires at their rated psi. Check your spark plug gapping, and keep up regular maintenance/ tune ups.
More expensive option would be to get an ECU upgrade...
The new fuel maps provide more power but use less fuel when drive normally.
Don't over drive the flow of traffic, try and catch the draft of bigger cars.
