gear selector lockup

Default gear selector lockup

I took the starter off a 2001 vovlo s40 put it back on and now the car will not even attempt to start and the gear selector will not move out of park(or anywhere for that mattter)

Immobilized? have you already used the overide button?

Yeah, your security light will flash I believe if it thinks you are try to start the car 'illegally'. Check to see if that is happening. Did you unlock the car with your fob? If you tried starting it without doing that the car still thinks the doors are locked. I also know that there is a period of wait time after the immobilized light comes on. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes.

No good. It's still stuck.Anybody got any other suggestions?

There is a lock button right above the gear shifter. Make sure that is not stuck in, that can cause your problem too.
