Default Hard Starting 2000 s40

I have noticed for a few weeks that if I leave my car parked in the sun for a while, during work, like for a whole day, I will come back and it doesn't like to start. When I turn the key to start, sometimes it will turn over for a good 3-5 seconds before it catches and starts. Sometimes it also feels as though the engine doesn't have enough fuel to start and is trying to catch. Also sometimes it will crank once and then nothing, and then I turn the key to accesory and back to start and it cranks for a while and then start. Like I said this is really only a problem when in the sun and on cold mornings.

As always, thanks for your help!

I am taking the car in to the dealer for the motor mount to be fixed on thursday and I am going to have them look at the Fuel Pressure Regulator while it is there. Is there an easy way to test the regulator that they can do at the shop? What else could it be?
Also would it be easy for me to replace the FPR with some help? What is involved in that?

Thanks a lot for your help!!!

The pressure regulator is easy to replace. There is one screw and 2 lines.

To test after the car is **** off and sits for a few pull the small vacuum line off the regulator and see if fuel is in the line. If so the regulator is bad.

They tested whole fuel system and found nothing wrong, and they couldn't duplicate the problem either.

Did you pull the vaccum line to test for fuel?

No i haven't, I assume the dealer did though. Don't they have a fancy-schmancy test for the FPR being bad?
I don't know hardly anything about cars and I am fearful to do anything frankly! Which line would I pull if I did it?

If you open the hood there is a black cover that covers the throttle cable. One screw is a philips and the other is a torxes 30 screw.
Remove the black cover. Then you will see a round looking thing on the end of the fuel rail. There will be a big fuel line that goes to the top of the regulator it also has a blue washer looking thing sitting on the line. On the bottom there is a white smaller vacuum line with an elbow on each side. Remove the side that goes to the intake. If gas is coming out of the hose the regulator is bad.

That is about what the Dealer would do I think. Thats what they should do.

K, I will try and do it later tonight, thanks for your help! I just can't believe the dealer didn't find anything, it's just not right! How much does the FPR cost, and whatare the steps for install,I already spent $455 at the dealer this week, so I will NOT be going there. BTW, they replaced my upper motor mount and the difference is AMAZING, the first time I started it, I actually looked at the RPM's to seen if it was on! Also had them flush and fill transmission with new fluid, that took care of my hard shifting rather quickly!

Are these symptoms consistant with FPR?

Thanks!!

Long crank time is a common symptom of a bad FPR.
The FPR isn't that bad to replace.

I am going to do that test tomorow, I just haven't had time to this last week. One more thing, the car starts better if I turn the car on and leave it in the on position while I roll down windows, adjust radio, etc for a few minutes and then start the engine and drive away.?
Also, where can I get the best price for the FPR?

Thanks!!

Yes when you turn the key on the fuel system primes.

So that key turn thing proves nothing about what it may be?
