You cannot turn them off. It's a "safety feature" that is programmed into the car. You get used to them being on all the time except when they burn out too quick. Then it's expensive.

The instruction on how to turn off the Daytime Running Lights, is in the owners manual.

1. turn the light switch on to the parking lights
2. Turn the ignition key to the 2nd position...(DONT START THE CAR)
3. Pull the turn signal toward you as if turning on the high beams, and HOLD IT THERE, WHILE TURNING THE PARKING LIGHTS OFF.

4. Turn off the key... pour yourself a cold one for a hard days work on the Volvo.
